A three-day training for citizen journalists on preventing violent extremism (VE) held in Bogura on 8-10 September 2018.
SoMaSHTe conducted the training under its Strengthening the Capacity of Local Media and Youth Citizen Journalists for Preventing Violent Extremism project, supported by Democracy International.
A total of 20 youths including 13 women participated in the training. The training was delivered as per module developed earlier.
The participants were provided with a range of knowledge and skills necessary for writing reports on violent extremism and related issues. The course content included theory and practice.
On the second day of the training participants were divided into four groups and went to rural areas for collecting information. Each group worked on different areas related to VE. The output of the field work included four group reports and 20 individual reports. The participants also prepared future reporting plan in the training.
The training was conducted by using various methods and tools of participatory approach including lectures, discussion, question-answer, news analysis, practical exercise, group work, field work, report writing and presentation, demonstration and projection etc.
Mir Masrur Zaman, director of SoMaSHTe led the training while Hasibur Rahman Bilu, chief, Independent TV Bogura Office, Rezaul Haque and Faria Tasnim of SomaSHTe facilitated the training sessions.
