Refreshers Workshop on Role of Media on Climate Financing held

A day-long refreshers workshop for journalists on climate financing was held at Cox’s Bazar on 27 June with 40 journalists from 19 districts in the attendance.  SoMaSHTe organized the event with the support from OXFAM and OXFAM-led alliance Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL). The event was a part of Media Advocacy to Contribute to Pro-poor Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Bangladesh under European Union supported project entitled Strengthening the Role of Non State Actors (NSA) in Climate Change Policy Formulation in Bangladesh being implemented by OXFAM.

Earlier, SoMaSHTe organized 19 workshops in 19 districts including four divisional headquarters on climate financing, low carbon development and mitigation for some 542 journalists. The refreshers workshop was represented by journalists participated in the previous workshops.

The refresher workshop focused on experiences and challenges that the journalists are facing to report on climate financing and other issues related to climate change. In addition, stronger networking among journalists, developing media toolkit on climate reporting, creating online resources, and future reporting issues were also discussed in the workshop.

The workshop was facilitated by SoMaSHTe’s directors Mir Masrur Zaman, Mir Shahidul Alam and Rezaul Haque. From OXFAM, manager of advocacy department Manisha Biswas, media and communication coordinator Abdul Quayyum and campaign officer Nuzhat Imam also facilitated the workshop.
